WHAT IS AN EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAMME?
Employee Assistance Services are now a standard part of Human Resources management policy and Risk Management practice in most government and many private organisations. The introduction of an EAP in a workplace has been shown to yield significant reductions in lost work time, sickness and workers compensation claims.
An AT&T Study under USA conditions identified a 4.5% (Approx.) saving on staffing costs over a two year period in the following areas: Workplace accidents, Absenteeism, visits to the work-site medical centre and unwanted staff turnover. Australian data on this matter is still being collected, but it seems that the experience is transferable to Australian conditions. Our initial calculations conservatively indicate savings of at least 3% on staffing costs.
By offering a prevention and early intervention service, an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) can increase productivity and the retention of good staff, and reduce stress, burnout and discontent amongst staff.
Working Relationships is a work-based, early intervention program that is designed to identify and address difficulties, either personal or work related or both which could interfere with work performance and lead to decreased productivity and efficiency.
A Working Relationships Employee Assistance Programme provides six core services: Counselling – debriefing, defusing emotional distress, resolving personal issues Coaching – relevant personal professional development, Training – professional development via short presentations or education programmes Consultation – to management Mediation – conflict resolution Critical Incident Response – group debriefing and trauma counselling
Why an Employee Assistance Programme? Because it is a cost effective response to troubled employees!
